MONTPELIER – With the DIV III OHSAA tournament draw coming this Sunday, it’s only fitting that the Lady Rams and the Lady Locos met in a tournament like atmosphere at the Rail yard at Montpelier High School.
Parents, fans, and students were on hand Tuesday night to see Lady Locos Ariel Page set a career milestone.
It didn’t take long, on the second possession of the game, the senior hit a pick and roll runner in the lane at the 6:53 mark, giving her 1,000 career points as a Lady Loco hoopster.
The first quarter saw Montpelier race out to an early 9-2 lead midway in the initial quarter. The Lady Rams battled back to cut the end of quarter deficit to 13-10.
Tinora eventually grab a late first half lead of 25-19, before heading to the half leading 26-25. Tinors’a Nova Okuley led the way with 12 first half points. Page added nine for the Lady Locos in the half.
An exciting back and forth second half awaited everyone in attendance.
Tinora held a 39-36 lead after three quarters, the Lady Rams led 39-34 before a Page bucket ended the Lady Locos scoring in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter saw the Lady Rams lead by four, 40-36, after the first minute of the final quarter.
Senior leaders Arial Page and Trinity Richmire would will the Lady Locos and eventually grab a one point lead of 46-45 with three minutes to go on a Jada Uribes three from the left corner.
Tinora responded right back, grabbing a 47-46 lead on an Anna Frazier bucket with 2:50 remaining.
Lady Loco Chelsea McCord would give the Lady Locos the lead for good on an offensive put back, 49-47 with 2:20 remaining.
A circus shot in the lane by Montpelier’s Trinity Richmire put the Lady Locos up 51-47, Montpelier would lead my as many as seven in the final 30 seconds.
Tinora would close it to 58-55 on a Karli Okuley three with 13 seconds left before the Lady Locos Page would hit two free throws, Montpelier eventually defeated the Lady Rams 60-55.
Tinora falls to 11-6, the Lady Rams are back at it Thursday from Tinora as the will host Paulding in a key GMC game.
Montpelier improves to 14-3, the Lady Locos will play BBC foe, the Hilltop Cadets,
