Coming in operating like an eight-cylinder engine over the past 3 games, the Lady Rams played the first half against the hosts, the Defiance Lady Bulldogs, like 4 of the cylinders were blown.
After changing the V8 oil at the half, head coach Kyle Tietje and staff again made the necessary adjustments to propel the Lady Rams to the Defiance Physical Therapy Championship Tuesday night vs the Archbold Lady ‘Streaks.
After a rugged start, Tinora trailed Defiance after the initial quarter, 12-10.
The Lady Rams rallied in the second, grabbing a 26-24 halftime lead over the Lady ‘Dogs. Tinora showed flashes of coming out off the sluggish play late in the first half. Emily Harr and Anna Gray let the way for Tinora in the first half, both with seven points each.
Defiance was paced by Mira Horvath with nine first half points.
Emerging from the half leading by two, the Lady Rams saw Defiance again rally, cutting the Tinora lead to just one, 31-30 with 4:40 remaining in the third.
After a Defiance timeout, the Lady Rams caught fire. The next four minutes saw the Lady Rams defense force numerous turnovers, as well as seeing almost every shot finding the bottom of the net. Tinora scored 19 points in just under four minutes in the third
Freshman Nova Okuley had the hot hand, scoring 8 second half points. Also, igniting the Tinora rally was sophomore Anna Gray. Gray with numerous great plays, numerous rebounds as well as bucketing six points, 13 overall, parachuting the Lady Rams to a 26 point third quarter, giving the Lady Rams 52-38 lead after three quarters.
Despite the big lead, as teams headed to the fourth the Lady Rams still had their hands full of Defiance’s Kinley Maynard, and Mira Horvath. Maynard and Horvath both ended the night with 17 points each for the Lady ‘Dogs.
Tinora had a double-digit lead for most of the final quarter, despite being outscored by Defiance, 13-10 over the last 8 minutes. The Lady Rams held on for a 61-51 win, advancing to the DPT Championship on Tuesday.
The Lady Rams had seven in on the scoring sheet, three in double figures.
The Tinora Lady Rams will take on Archbold, who defeated Ayersville 42-30. Archbold was led by Addi Zigler with 16 points.
Tinora improves to 5-1 with the win.
Defiance remains winless, dropping to 0-4
The Higbea Embroidery Player of the Game award went to Anna Gray. Gray finished with 13 points, two 3’s, and 4 rebounds. Congratulations Anna.
