Miller City drops Tinora, 64-49

To say it was the Austin Ruhe show at Tinora High School was an understatement. Ruhe set a career high with 35 points tonight in the Wildcats 64-49 win over the Rams at Tinora High School.

Ruhe’s 35 also set a new high for the Tinora gymnasium, which opened January 21, 2021. The old record was held by Holgate’s Robbie Thacker with 28 on January 29 vs the Rams.

After just a few minutes of play on Tuesday night, the Rams knew they were in for a rough night. Miller City’s Austin Ruhe set the tone right away, After the Rams grabbed a brief early lead 7-6, Ruhe was off and running for the Wildcats. Ruhe and Miller City would rip off the next 14 points, Ruhe with 11 in the first quarter, to grab a 20-7 lead.

The second quarter was much of the same, Miler City and Austin Ruhe were rolling. Bucketing another 10 in the second quarter, 20 for the half, the Rams would see a halftime deficit to 36-17.

The Second half saw the Tinora Rams Nolan Schafer and Luke Harris catch fire. After finding the offense groove in the third quarter, the Rams cut the Miller City lead to 43-34 at the end of three quarters

At the start of the fourth quarter, Tinora cut the Wildcats lead down to just five. Tinora Junior Luke Harris shook off a sprained ankle, drilling a three pointer from the left wing to start the quarter. Harris was fouled and converted the four point play, cutting the Wildcats lead to 43-35 with just over seven minutes remaining in the contest. Harris would end the game with a career high 24 points.

Calm, cool, and collected, the Miller City Wildcats saw sophomore Silas Niese step up to center stage. Niese with two straight three pointers, increased the Wildcat lead back to 11, 49-38. The Rams were to get no closer after the Niese daggers.
Miller City closed out the quarter and the game, defeating the Rams 64-49,

Niece ended the game with 13 points, 11 in the second half. Austin Ruhe ended the game with 35 points. 15 second half points.

Rumor was Ruhe sold 50/50 tickets at the half, as well as drove the Miller City bus home, unconfirmed.

With the loss, the Rams fall to 1-1. Tinora will travel to Delta to take on the Panthers this Friday night.

Miller City improves to 1-1, the Wildcats will host Holgate on Friday.
