A four run fifth inning, including a Bryce Bailey two run home run, propelled the Tinora Rams to the Acme District 2 Championship game Sunday at 2:15 pm at Miller City High School.
The Rams will face the winner from the loser’s bracket, either Miller City or Wauseon, who will play Sunday at 12 pm.
Tinora is the remaining unbeaten team in the District 2 bracket, Miller City & Wauseon both are 1-1.
Things got off to an ominous start for the Rams in the top of the first inning as Wauseon sent 9 batters to the plate, scoring 3 runs of Tinora senior starter Casen Wolfrum.
Trailing 3-0 as they went to bat for the first time, Tinora answered the Indians, scoring two runs on RBI’s by Cole Commisso and Teron Ward, trimming the Wauseon lead to 3-2 after one inning.
Wolfrum then settled into a bit of a groove, allowing just 2 more runs over the next 4 innings. Despite the revival by Wolfrum, the Rams bats were silenced by Wauseon starter Logan Waldron.
Waldron limited the Tinora offense to just 2 runs through four innings.
Trailing 5-2 entering the bottom of the fifth, the bats of the Rams finally came to life. A lead off walk to Cole Commisso as well a Commisso steal, followed by a Teron Ward single, started the Ram rally. The Ward single cut the Indians lead to 5-3. After a Wauseon error allowed Dalton Wolfrum to reach, scoring Ward, the Indians lead was cut to 5-4.
Up stepped the man of the hour, senior first baseman Bryce Bailey. With D. Wolfrum in scoring position after a stolen base, Bailey stepped in with the Rams trailing by one run. Bryce Bailey sent the second pitch he saw from Wauseon’s Waldron deep to down the left field line, the ball hit the left field foul pole for a two run homer run, putting the Rams on top 6-4.
Casen Wolfrum exited for the Rams after a 107 pitch, 5 inning effort. Cole Commisso came on to pitch the sixth inning for Tinora.
After Wauseon added a single run in the top of the sixth off Commisso, Tinora added two additional runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to grab an 8-6 lead.
Tinora acme head coach Doug Plassman handed the ball to Eli Plassman to start the seventh inning to close the door on Wauseon. The Indians however were not done. Trailing by two in their final at bat, Wauseon mounted a rally, cutting the Rams lead to just one at 8-7 after a run by Kaden Klymer. Plassman however righted the Rams ship, getting the final out, sending Tinora to the Championship game on Sunday.
In the double elimination District 2 tournament, the Rams will need to be defeated two times to be eliminated. If needed, a Monday game would take place.
We will cover the Sunday game, weather permitting.
