The Tinora Lady Rams entered the final game of the 2021 season under first year coach Denny Helberg looking to end on a high note on Senior Night from the Lady Rams softball complex at Tinora High School
Playing in their final contest in a Lady Rams uniform were Lady Ram seniors, Haylie Lero, Tristen Norden, Sarah Neff, Libby Bumb, and Ellie Manley. Each was looking to put their mark on a fantastic career as a Lady Ram athlete.
As the Lady Rams were celebrating Senior Night at Tinora, The Holgate Tigers were playing in their final GMC contest as they exit the Green Meadows Conference and head to the BBC, the Buckeye Border Conference in the fall of 2021.
Freshman Skylea Zolman took the hill for the Lady Rams. It didn’t take long for the freshman to register strikeout number 150 on the season, striking out the third hitter in the Lady Tigers lineup as she also struck out the side in the top of the first inning.
The Tinora bats were ready to roll as they scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first, RBI singles by Tristen Norden, Quin Horn, and Paige Carpenter gave the Lady Rams a lead, and they never looked back.
Leading 3-0 as they headed to the bottom of the second inning, the Lady Rams bats again were on fire, Tinora added another run on an RBI single by Anna Frazier to give the Lady Rams a 3-0 lead after two
On the hill, freshman sensation Skylea Zolman was rolling, shutting down the Holgate Lady Tiger bats. Zolman struck out six straight Tigers in the first & second innings, ending the game with 10K’s.
After the Lady Tigers scored two runs off Zolman cutting the Lady Rams to 5-2, we headed to the bottom of the third.
Again Tinora was rolling at the plate as they sent nine to the plate, scoring 4 runs, increasing the lead to 9-2 over the Lady Tigers after three innings. Highlighted was a Haylie Lero opposite-field double scoring both Tanae Smith and Sara Neff. Lero wasn’t done running on the play, a double throwing error turned the double into run number nine for the Lady Rams.
One Senior Night 2021, the Lady Rams took a 9-2 lead to the bottom of the fourth. This is the inning dreams are made of by this Tinora senior class. After runs by Libby Bumb and Ellie Manley increased the Tinora lead to 11-2, the next 3 batters reached, loading the bases for senior shortstop Tristen Norden. Norden stepped up smashing the first pitch she saw over the center field fence for a grand slam home run in her final at-bat as a Lady Ram, capping a seven-run fourth inning for Tinora, taking a 16-2 lead into the fifth inning.
After Lady Rams starter Zolman retired the first two hitters, Tinora senior Tristen Norden came on to take over on the mound. After a small Holgate rally, Norden struck out the final hitter to end the game, the season, senior night, and end her stellar career on the field and on the court for the Lady Rams.
Final from Tinora, the Lady Rams 16, Holgate 6 in 5 innings.
The Higbea Embroidery Player of the Game award goes to the Lady Rams senior class of Haylie Lero, Tristen Norden, Sara Neff, Libby Bumb, and Ellie Manley. Congratulations and best of luck to each of you.
With the win, Tinora ends the season under first-year coach Denny Helberg at 14-7, 6-1 in GMC play.
