And who said you can’t outdo yourself? After a come from behind instant classic win on Monday night vs Montpelier, the Rams welcomed the state ranked Antwerp Archers to Tinora in a battle for the top of the Green Meadows Conference standings.
Antwerp came in as the #3 team in Div IV in the most recent Prep Baseball Ohio weekly poll, while the Tinora Rams came in ranked 7th in Div III. Both teams were 4-0 in GMC play, Tinora came in 15-2 overall riding an 11 game winning streak. The Archers came to Tinora with a 11-4 record, winning 8 of their last 9 games.
Both Brent Renollet of Tinora and Zac Feasby of Antwerp sent their teams aces to the hill. The Rams senior righty and Wright State Lake commit Andrew Imthurn took his 5-0 record and 2.33 ERA to the hill. The Archers sent BGSU commit Luke Krouse to the mound and his 0.00 ERA.
After a shaky start of allowing 4 unearned runs in the top of the second inning, capped by a two run home run by Archer lead off hitter Chase Clark giving Antwerp a 4-0 lead, Rams starter Andrew Imthurn settled in over the next 4 innings.
Tinora closed the gap to 4-1 with a single run in the third, a Cole Commisso RBI double.
The Rams answered with another solo run in the bottom of the fifth, another RBI by Commisso, this time a sacrifice fly to cut the Archer lead in half, 4-2.
The Rams put on the rally caps as the game headed to the bottom of the sixth inning, trailing 4-2, Tinora sent seven hitters to the plate, climaxed by a bloop single to center by Nolan Schafer scoring 2 runners followed by RBI single by Marcus Grube scoring Schafer gave the Rams a 5-4 lead as we headed the top of inning seven.
After Tinora’s Imthurn retired the first batter, the next 2 Archers reached via error allowing Antwerp to tie the game at 5-5 as we headed to the bottom of the seventh inning.
The tension in the air was tight as the Rams sent Cole Commisso to the plate, Cole responded with a single, giving the Rams the go-ahead run at first. After Bryce Bailey was retired for the first out, Zach Spychala laced a single over the third-base bag. Up stepped junior Jayden Bergman, Bergman sent an 0-1 pitch into the left-center field gap, scoring Cole Commisso from second to send the Rams to their second straight home walk-off win.
Tinora improves to 16-2, 5-0 in GMC play. Andrew Imthurn with the win to move to 6-0.
Antwerp falls to 11-5, 4-1 in league play.
The win by the Rams was their 12th straight win, league games vs Holgate and Ayersville are remaining for Tinora.
