After coming in off a big GMC win Friday vs Hicksville, the Rams welcomed Div II opponent Maumee to Tinora for a Saturday afternoon game.
Tinora came in with the water running on hot, winning 9 straight, and 13 of their last 14 games. The Rams only loss this month was to Div I Anthony Wayne, the Generals currently are ranked #2 in Div I.
Tinora sent junior right-hander Casen Wolfrum to the hill vs the Panthers of Maumee. Wolfrum was coming off a 10 strikeout performance a week ago in a win vs Liberty Center. Although Wolfrum didn’t have the command he had a week earlier, the junior battled all the way to the end, giving every ounce of energy his right arm could muster up. Wolfrum went 4 2/3 innings in the no-decision, allowing 3 runs to the Maumee offense who was coming in off a road win at Defiance on Thursday, 4-2.
The Tinora bats again jumped out quickly in the first inning, a leadoff single by Tinora’s Nolan Schafer was followed by an RBI ground out by Cole Commisso giving the Rams a 1-0 lead after one inning. The score remained 1-0 through three innings as both Wolfrum and Maumee starter Drew Durliat battled it out pitch for pitch.
The Rams broke through in the bottom of the fourth for two more runs. Christian Commisso with an RBI single, scoring Tristan Birks, and Max Grube with a Sac fly scoring Commisso, giving the Rams a 3-0 lead.
Maumee finally broke through in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs to tie the game at 3-3. Rams starter Wolfrum was relieved by senior lefty Jacob Bailey. Bailey came on to get the final out in the fifth.
Tinora again took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs. Rams third base Tristan Birks and First baseman Christian Commisso supplying RBI’s to increase the Rams lead to 5-3. Tinora added a single run on an RBI single by Marcus Grube in the bottom of the sixth to increase their lead to 6-3 heading into the final inning.
The Maumee Panthers broke through scoring 2 runs in the top of the seventh before Cole Commisso came on in relief of Jacob Bailey slamming the door on the Panthers comeback, stranding runners at second and third.
